Glacial Studies IV

2021

The detached bodies of ice from the melting Vatnajökull glacier are floating in a lagoon, waiting to become part of the sea. On the surface it is quiet, only the cold wind is blowing. But underwater, one can hear crackling sounds of these magnificent glacial sculptures when they fall apart and dissolve. The underwater recordings of this slow yet accelerating natural phenomena are being mediated through the body of a piano. It rattles and quivers as the glacier transforms.

The piece was exhibited as part of a BFA exhibition in the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki
